2004-08-01 - 11:37 a.m. YOU ARE HERE: Robotkitten - April 2001 to November 2002 PREVIOUS DIARY: Kevspace - April 2000 to December 2000 CURRENT DIARY: Saifu - February 2003 to present This cautiously pessimistic entry was the start of Robotkitten, my second diary here on Diaryland. It's a bit astonishing to me, considering that I was trying to keep this diary a secret from my friends, that it lasted the year (and a half) that it did. I closed it with this entry, dreaming unrealistically of a life not spent in large portions on the Internet, and unreasonably annoyed with my friends for being naturally curious and reading the words I was typing and sticking up here. I came to the conclusion that it was not possible to prevent an online diary from totally wrecking everything, and I made an admirably strong effort to live my life without one. I managed to do just that for about three months until March 2003, when I decided that the incredibly surreal time I was having dating a Mormon (and dreaming about her nonexistant relatives and songs they sing to me, apparently) was just too weird to go undocumented. It all blew up in my face due to a misguided, paranoid plan of diary secrecy and pseudonyms. I offered the Saifu URL to anybody who might want it and stopped writing for three months, during which time nobody wanted my URL. Finally I "just said sca-rew it" and starting writing tame, semipublic entries using everybody's actual names. And I still do just that to this very day, about once a week, usually on a Saturday or Sunday whenever there's some chore I'd rather not do. Whee!
